This position is located in the Grants Management Program (GMP), Division of Extramural Activities (DEA), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

Duties

The incumbent of this position serves as a Lead Grants Management Specialist over a team of 4-6 Grants Management Specialists. The incumbent is responsible for most of the day-to-day technical direction of the staff. Communicate to the team the goals, assignments, milestones, issues under review, and deadlines to be met for all grant applications submitted from their geographic region. Serve as assigned on departmental and NIH working groups where development of significant new innovations is needed to create and implement major policies and procedures affecting the NIH grants program. Represent the Institute, Division of Extramural Activities, and Grants Management Program (GMP) both in daily work operations and at conferences and meetings with universities and other organizations on matters of grants policy. Participate in review and approval of grant initiatives and funding plans. Maintain an individual grants workload consisting of the more complex grant applications submitted from their designated geographic region. Provide advice to grantees on unusually complex or unique administrative matters relating to grant mechanisms, policy, and procedure.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Lead Grants Management Specialist GS-1109-14, you must meet the following qualification requirement: You qualify for the GS-14 level because you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: serving as a fiscal manager and administrative advisor to explain grants management objectives, policies, and procedures; participating in developing grants policies, guidelines, procedures and internal controls; serving on grants committees and workgroups; providing general lead responsibilities and assisting with staff in prioritizing work.
