Duties

Conduct short and long term criminal investigations on Fort Carson, providing investigative support to all tenant activities assigned to the installation. Investigate criminal activity in a timely manner and coordinate investigative results with Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, Commanders, the Staff Judge Advocate and the civilian District Attorney. Provide protective services to general officers and high-ranking dignitaries as necessary. Serve as the primary evidence custodian to ensure that evidence received by the PPMD is processed and stored in accordance with Army Regulation 195-5. Assume custody of evidence and marks items for future identification to ensure accountability, preservation, and the safeguarding of evidence throughout judicial proceedings and disposition of all evidence in the depository. Record all physical evidence on proper forms and records any change of custody, assigns document numbers and location within the evidence room. Ensure evidence is stored so that the integrity and physical characteristics are maintained, including safeguarding property from loss, theft, pilferage, damage, alteration, or any change in value or appearance other than laboratory examination. Remove evidence from the evidence room only for permanent disposal or for temporary release to include conducting controlled burns, transmittal to the crime laboratory for forensic examination. Responsible for the security, control and accountability of property turned in to the Fort Carson PPMD as lost, found, or abandoned. Train and schedule Military Police personnel to apprehend and transport military prisoners in accordance regulations. Provide information and documentation to the United States Army Deserter Information Point (USADIP) for the processing of deserters and the issuance of federal arrest warrants. Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Lautenberg Amendment - This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance for the duration of employment.
  • Incumbent must be qualify in the use of required/assigned weapons.
  • Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • Must wear uniform and will be required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) clothing or gear such as chemical masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, shields, and body armor.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle and an appropriate, valid driver's license is required.
  • Must pass an initial pre-employment and periodic medical examinations, initial and annual physical fitness/physical agility tests, meet established hearing standards, discern colors, contrast and depth.
  • The incumbent must immediately report to supervisor any significant medical threshold shifts in health status and/or medication requirements.
  • Heavy Lifting (in excess of 45 pounds is required).
  • Must be able to graduate Department of Army Civilian Police Academy.
  • You may be expected to travel a 25% of the time for this position.
  • Incumbent will be required to work overtime. Incumbent will be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotational basis around a 24-hour clock, 7 days a week.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercise of arrest authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Incumbent will be exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law enforcement and security duties.
  • This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date).
  • Selectee’s inability to successfully pass or refusal to conduct the drug test may result in the job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process or subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment.
  • You may be required to sign a Statement of Understanding if you are selected for this position.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
