Duties

Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short and long term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Evaluate work performance of subordinates; gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Approve leave requests; interviews candidates for positions in the section; recommends appointment, promotion, or reassignment to such positions Plan, organize, direct and conduct long term investigations of complex, sensitive, and controversial violations (actual or potential) of criminal law. Review military police reports and criminal intelligence to determine what investigative action to take. Coordinate and review investigative efforts of personnel assigned to particular cases. Perform monthly reviews of case folders to verify investigations are progressing in a timely and thorough manner, and ensures bi-weekly quality reviews of folders are completed per AR 190-45. Responsible for the accountability and maintenance of special investigative equipment and branch property. Assist the credential control officer in maintaining positive control of individual credentials. Exercise arrest authority based on legal warrants or to prevent further criminal actions. Organize and directs raids and searches to seize evidence, contraband weapons and drugs to detain or question suspects. Incumbent must be highly skilled in establishing the interrelationship of facts and evidence especially when witnesses/suspects deny knowledge and /or initial investigations show no obvious inconsistencies. Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a Drug Testing Designated Position covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. A DA Form 5019R must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • Operate a government motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties (valid state operator's license required as a precondition of employment).
  • Position requires skill in the use of authorized firearms (qualification and recertification in accordance with Army Standard Qualifications requirements). Incumbent must successfully complete semi-annual qualification on his or her assigned weapon.
  • Must be able to be qualified and certified in the use of chemical aerosol irritants, tear gas, radar gun and breathalyzer equipment.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Incumbent must pass a pre-appointment physical and annual physicals thereafter.
  • Incumbent must be able to be medically cleared and take and pass a physical agility test within one year of hire and every 12 months commensurate with the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Incumbent may, as appropriate, be required to wear the prescribed uniform.
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment in case of Hazardous/chemical incident (respirators, safety glasses, etc.).
  • May be required to attend and successfully complete the Department of the Army Civilian Police Academy.
  • Must be able to maintain qualification for the Individual Reliability Program in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Must be able to obtain as a precondition of employment and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • In the event of a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved. May be required to remain on duty after the shift ends and is subject to recall to duty.
  • Requires working rotating shifts and may be required to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
  • May be required to travel a 10% of the time for this position.
  • This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date).
  • Selectee’s inability to successfully pass or refusal to conduct the drug test may result in the job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process or subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment.
