This position serves as a Supervisory Staff Assistant to the Director of NIAAA and performs a variety of administrative duties designed to meet the internal requirements of the Director's immediate office and its management functions.

Duties

At the full performance level, you will: Respond to inquiries and provide advice on diverse and complex subjects which require thorough knowledge of the NIAAA Director's priorities, point of view and current projects assigned. Demonstrate intuitive judgment, discretion and tact in resolving problems in often highly sensitive and critical areas which would have substantial Impact on the agency. Serve as first line supervisor for the technical and administrative staff, providing a broad range of operational business management to assigned area. Ensure that the work and support of subordinate administrative staff is effective, efficient and that the overall delivery of services meets and/or exceeds the needs of the organizations serviced. Develop and implement changes and improvements to facilitate flow of work in the immediate office, thereby relieving the NIAAA Director of as much routine work as possible. Serve as liaison between the NIAAA Director, staff associates and other government and non-government offices in matters which require an extensive knowledge of institute programs, organizations, policies and procedures. Responsible for thorough knowledge of correspondence submitted to the NIAAA Director for signature or information.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

  • Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Supervisory Staff Assistant GS-0301 position at the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Monitoring staff projects and/or work to report to management on timeliness and efficiency; assigning administrative work to staff and providing direction on administrative assignments; Utilizing tracking systems (i.e. spreadsheets, filing systems, and/or calendaring software) for project planning, timelines, and statuses; and developing and communicating administrative procedures.
