This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, Coast Guard District Seven, Sector Miami, Prevention Department, Inspections Division in Detroit, MI.

Duties

The selectee of this position is responsible for providing subject matter expertise and technical support for the Coast Guard's Preparedness Program. They oversee the conception, planning, coordination, and execution of all hazard/all threats contingencies including but not limited to: Area Maritime Security Planning (AMSP); Area Contingency Planning, Mass Rescue Planning; Salvage and Recovery Planning; Continuity of Operations Planning; Combatant Commander Planning and Operations Planning. Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • This position requires a Secret clearance.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position may require a one year probationary period.

Qualifications

GS-12: one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal sector related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include: Overseeing coordination of preparedness activities including exercise development and conduct, planning, training, remedial action for full range of CG contingencies; creating CG planning/exercise publications, directives and Operations Orders; fostering relationships with appropriate intergovernmental preparedness entities to improve contingency planning and exercise development.  National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
