Duties

Duties include, but are not limited: Manage the Victim Witness Program for the Eastern District of Michigan. Communicating with victims and witnesses to assess their immediate assistance needs, providing resource referral counseling to crime victims, their families, and witnesses. Collaborate with local, state, and Federal law enforcement, Federal investigative agency victim specialists, community organizations, and social service agencies. Develop and deliver community outreach briefings and presentations to promote interest in and support of the victim assistance program. Assist AUSA's in locating victims and witnesses and assess their ability to testify in court proceedings. Provide in-court support to victims during and prior to hearings and trials, including courtroom orientation to testimony, facilitating opportunities for victims to consult with AUSA's prosecuting the case and locating a safe, separate waiting area apart from defendants and their counsel. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12, you must meet the following criteria: Specialized experience is defined as one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service that involved serving victims and/or witnesses in connection with court proceedings and appearances; providing resources and referrals to crime victims, their families, and witnesses; providing in-court support to victims during or prior to hearings and trials; coordinating travel arrangements for crime victims, their families, and witnesses to attend court appearances; or coordination with law enforcement and victim service providers to establish support plans for victims. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
