About the Position: Serves as Captain of the Patrol Section with responsibility for the command and control of law enforcement patrol operation. Responsible for the operational status of all police officers assigned to the section that are involved in law enforcement, traffic control, investigations, and patrol activities.

Duties

Primary responsibility of the position is to ensure compliance with and enforce a full range of Federal, State, local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations as they pertain to law enforcement work. Conduct supervisory operational reviews of law enforcement activities to ensure they are maintaining training standards and to ensure all required and other approved equipment is issued and maintained properly. Perform duties as the senior on duty supervisory Police Officer within the section, assists and guides the activities of subordinates engaged in law enforcement work. Ensure compliance with and enforce a full range of Federal, State, local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations as they pertain to law enforcement work. Interview candidates for subordinate supervisory and non-supervisory positions and recommends various personnel actions including promotions or reassignments. Effect minor disciplinary measures, and recommends other actions. Develop employee performance standards and makes formal and informal appraisal of work, giving advice, counsel and/or instructions to employees as required.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Incumbent must obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date). Must sign a DA Form 5019 form.
  • Must be able to qualify initially and at a minimum, semi-annually recertify with assigned weapon(s) and handling of assigned weapon(s) to include less than lethal weapons.
  • A One year of supervisory probationary period may be required.
  • As a Mission Essential position, in the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situation the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations
  • Incumbent must successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring physical examinations as required by the Army Regulation 190-56.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
  • Incumbent must take and pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of the hiring date and annually thereafter.
  • Must be able to wear government-furnished police uniform and safety equipment (e.g., chemical protection masks must be snug to the face for personal protection).
  • Incumbent must meet all requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • Must complete an initial and an annual Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) recertification, first aid requirement, and National Incident Management System training requirements.
  • Must be able to be qualified and certified in the use of chemical aerosol irritants, tear gas, radar gun and breathalyzer equipment.
  • Requires working irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and Holidays. May be required to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Must graduate from an academy accredited by U.S. Army Military Police School, Civilian Police Academy and complete Officer Field Training Program upon initial assignment to law enforcement duties.
  • Must graduate from United States Army Civilian Police Academy or complete within one year of hire date, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General (OPMG).
  • Official Temporary Duty (T DY) up to 25% of the time may be required.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • The Omnibus Federal Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554) requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies after the law takes effect.
  • Felony convictions that occurred before the new law takes effect are not included in this requirement; only new convictions will trigger the requirement. The law went into effect on January 20, 2001.
