Duties

Handle all telephone emergency and non-emergency calls, operate dispatching, communications, and automation equipment in order to coordinate a response with appropriate personnel and equipment. Perform crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers during high-risk situations until appropriate emergency field units arrive on scene. Transfer caller to proper agency as determined or dispatches a variety of emergency equipment to include Police, Fire, Ambulance, Med-Evac, rescue or hazardous materials units. Maintain continuous telephone contact with caller (when appropriate) during emergency situations and gives instructions regarding what to do, and what not to do, prior to the arrival of pre-hospital care providers. Operate the Severe Weather warning system for the installation when required. Coordinates specific weather forecasts for incidents requiring this information (wild fires, prescribed fires, and hazardous materials). Verify the receipt of all alarms with the responsible agency(s), relays additional information to the other centers refining the information given by the computer system(s) and updates all agencies as the situation warrants.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain certification Advanced Medical Priority Dispatch System certification, continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Telecommunication II certification, continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain DoD Hazardous Materials Awareness certification, continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
  • The incumbent is responsible for attaining Continuing Dispatch Education (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally and pass in accordance with predetermined course requirements.
  • Required to obtain and maintain a Texas Crime Information Center and National Crime Information training in order to access/enter information and pass the courses with pre-determined requirements set by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • The incumbent must be able to obtain/maintain access to criminal justice information systems.
  • Incumbent is required to work (Mission Essential) regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
  • The work is performed in a highly stressful, restricted office environment.
  • This position is subject to emergency recall to duty.
  • This position is subject to rotating shifts where the incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends, and holidays).

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. ???????Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) operating automation, emergency dispatching, and communications equipment; (2) questioning callers to determine problems and nature of calls to respond with appropriate emergency personnel/equipment; (3) accomplishing several tasks at one time such as operating radios, telephones, and typing; (4) communicating effectively with police, fire, or medical personnel during emergencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical)Decision MakingListeningTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
