About the Position: This position provides emergency police, fire and medical services to the public by answering emergency911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment.

Duties

Retrieve statistical information using the local authority's fire incident reporting system(s). Refer non-emergent callers to appropriate civilian and/or governmental agencies. Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of 911 emergency calls. Relay information to the other centers refining the information given by the computer system(s) and/or updates all agencies as the situation warrants.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • The work is performed in a highly stressful, restricted office environment.
  • The incumbent is required to possess and maintain certification in CPR, Advanced Medical Priority Dispatch System, and DOD Hazardous Materials Awareness, and continuous current certification as a condition of employment.
  • The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch education (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally.
  • The position requires the incumbent to obtain/maintain the Full Access (40 hour course) National Crime Information Center/Texas Crime Information Center (NCIC/TCIC) certification provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • This position is subject to emergency recall to duty.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Telecommunication II certification; continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
  • The incumbent must be able to obtain/maintain access to criminal justice information systems.
