Serves as an Aviation Safety Assistant (OA) in the Flights Standards Field Office.

Duties

FG-7 - Provides administrative, semi-technical, and clerical related support to the supervisor, or manager, Aviation Safety Inspectors (ASIs), and Administrative Officer. Utilizes tools relevant to the Safety Assurance System environment which includes obtaining background data, preparing reports, reviewing applications, interviewing applicants, processing certificates, and maintaining technical and administrative files. Processes FAA-issued airman certificates such as an FAA designated representative, mechanics, repairmen, flight engineers, and pilots. Interviews applicants to determine qualifications for non-complex certificates. Processes FAA authorizations such as inspection authorization, aircrew program designee, aerobatic competency, etc. Processes FAA-issued operator and air agency certificates such as air carrier, repair stations, and approved schools. Examines applications and supporting documents for completeness, consistency of information, and assures correction, if required. Monitors and tracks returned files. Researches appropriate handbooks, collects information, organizes material pertinent to meetings and training sessions such as pre-certification, examiner renewal, inspector authorization, and flight examiner and written test examiner indoctrination. Conducts written test examiner training sessions when necessary. Assists with interpreting and implementing newly modified agency directives relating to accident, incident, enforcement processing, and airmen/operator certification file processing. Determines necessary action and notification to assure staff is aware of latest changes. Answers inquiries from and advises organization personnel regarding the preparation of technical work. Researches, writes, and types non-technical and routine technical correspondence. Assists in composing complex technical correspondence. Maintains, reviews, and revises form letters at the request of ASIs in accordance with FAA branding and writing guidelines and procedures.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

  • Successful completion of a security investigation may be required.
  • Must type 40 wpm based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
  • This is not a 100% telework position. Situational telework may be available based on the needs of the Office.

Qualifications

To qualify for the FG-07 position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least 52 weeks one year of specialized experience equivalent FG-6/FV-D work. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is: experience that demonstrates analyzing problems, gathering data, recognizing solutions, planning and organizing work, and conveying information in an office environment; creating and maintaining administrative and technical files, conducting interviews, preparing reports, researching, writing and typing non-technical and technical correspondence, and using automated systems for data entry.NOTE: Incumbent must possess office automation skills.Qualifications must be met by the closing date of this vacancy announcement.
