Incumbent is an Aviation Safety Assistant (Office Automation) (OA) in a Flight Standards field office. Provides administrative, semi-technical, and clerical related support to the supervisor, or manager, Aviation Safety Inspectors (ASIs), and Administrative Officer.

Duties

Utilizes tools relevant to the Safety Assurance System environment which includes obtaining background data, preparing reports, reviewing applications, interviewing applicants, processing certificates, and maintaining technical and administrative files.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must type 40 wpm based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

To qualify for the FG-06:To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-D, FG/GS-5. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience researching, writing, and typing non-technical and routine correspondence, distributing incoming correspondence, general office support, receiving incoming telephone calls, answers technical inquiries, and directing all other incoming calls appropriately.To qualify at FG-07:To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience at the FV-D, FG/GS-6. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience preparing control sheets, copying and distributing preliminary and final report documents, and reviewing for accuracy and completeness. Maintaining individual logs, preparing special and recurring reports, interacting with offices and the public, assisting visitors and providing information.Qualifications must be met by the closing date of this vacancy announcement.Must be able to type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Not applicable, no education substitution for qualifications for this position at the FG-06/07 levels.

This is a developmental position leading to the full performance level of FG-7. The position is designed to prepare the incumbent for progressively more difficult and complex work assignments with increased independence, confidence, and authority. Selection may be made at the FG-6 or FG-7. If selection is made at the FG-6, if qualified, future promotion may occur, if and when, there is higher level work to be performed, the manager assigns the higher level work and the incumbent shows the capacity to perform the work. In all cases, the manager will decide whether or not to promote based on the needs of the organization. There is NO mandatory requirement for promotion to the next higher level.

Promotions are not automatic and are at the discretion of the supervisor.
