Duties

Ensure personnel and equipment are in a constant-state-of-readiness for immediate response to any firefighting and rescue operations. Operate assigned rescue, fire suppression (structural and crash), hazardous materials, and support vehicles necessary to perform assigned duties. Respond to hazardous material/ Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) incidents, surveying scene for the purpose of stopping or controlling the release. Administer emergency medical care and treatment for illnesses and injuries of occupational and non-occupational origin for soldiers, dependents, civilian employees, and visitors to Fort Bragg. Perform Fire Prevention/ Fire Safety inspections for compliance with fire safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • Maintains a valid driver's License.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, "Condition of employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program".
  • Participates in meets and/or exceeds the standards of the DoD Firefighter Physical Fitness Program.
  • Conforms to the requirements set-forth in NFPA 1500, Fire Department Occupational Health and Safety Program.
  • Works 48-hour rotating shifts and 144 hours per pay period. Incumbent may be required to work overtime as the need arises.
  • Heavy physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects such as support equipment weighing 50 lbs or more; as well as performing work under extremely adverse conditions that could be dangerous to life and health.
  • Must be able to pass pre-appointment and subsequent periodic medical examinations IAW DoD 6055.5M to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
  • Performs temporary duty travel for the purpose of obtaining specialized training and other fire and emergency services duties.
  • This position is designated as essential during inclement weather, fire, hazardous duty, and other emergency operations.
  • Performs, as required, mutual aid support to local fire departments.
  • Successfully passes an annual firefighter's medical physical examination IAW NFPA 1582.
  • This is a "Mission Essential" position. A Mission Essential employee is required to report for, or remain at, work in emergency situations, and dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to him/her unless his/her supervisor instructs otherwise.
  • This position is a KEY position IAW AR 690-11. Incumbent cannot be a member of the Selected Reserve, Individual Ready Reserve or Inactive National Guard. Key positions must be exempt from recall to active duty.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement. A job offer with this requirement may be withdrawn if the candidate refuses to undergo vaccinations for reasons other than medical or religious.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, HAZMAT Technician, Airport Firefighter, Driver Operator Pumper, Driver Operator Mobile Water Supply, Driver Operator ARFF, Driver Operator Aerial, Fire Officer I, Fire Service Instructor I, Fire Inspector I certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M AND a State or National Registry EMT License .
