About the Position: The incumbent will serve as a Target Devices Repairer at the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobililization, and Security (DPTMS) in Fort Sill, OK.

Duties

Provide support regarding field/shop maintenance on the Stationary Infantry Target Systems (SITS), Stationary Armor Target Systems (SATS), Moving Infantry Target Systems (MITS), Moving Armor Target Systems (MATS), etc. Inspect, test, service, adjust, align, calibrate, install, repair, replace, recondition, troubleshoot, field test, and/or shop test target mechanisms and hit sensor devices. Fabricate and repair electrical power/data cables, hit sensor cable assemblies, hard-wire target control power distribution/switch devices, etc. Operate computer keyboard console to activate target mechanisms and to perform maintenance. Operate tractors equipped with mowers, bucket, or blade in training areas on steep hills or in rough terrain where there is significant danger of overturning the tractor or equipment. Open and close range danger fan gates/signs, make minor repairs, inspect property in the cantonment area, make repairs as needed, or reports needed repairs to leadership.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Subject to an irregular tour of duty to cover 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week range operation.
  • Must obtain a US Government Motor Vehicle Operators Certification Card.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
  • A physical exam is required.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Target Devices Repairer without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common Target Devices Repairer duties including to install, repair, replace, recondition, troubleshoot, field test and/or shop test target mechanisms and hit sensor devices; use general electrical and mechanical hand tools (such as, soldering iron, radial arm and electrical hand saws, hand drill; use oxygen-acetylene welder for flatwork cutting and welding; read technical manuals, schematic diagrams and similar guides which cover operation and maintenance of target systems and testing techniques; Operates tractors equipped with mowers, bucket, or blade on steep hills or in rough terrain to perform range maintenance. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)TroubleshootingUse of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT The work involves considerable standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, crawling and climbing up and down a steep flight of stairs (30-foot control tower) or embankments. Work may be done in awkward and cramped positions Operation of truck and tractor requires frequent arm and leg movement to operate and manipulate controls. Work may require working on ladders and towers to accomplish maintenance work. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally handles objects weighing 100 pounds or over with assistance. Requires prolonged standing on concrete floors and walking over rough and uneven terrain. WORKING CONDITIONS Works inside and outside during all types of weather conditions. Stands on concrete floors and works on ranges in rough terrain. Exposed to dangers of live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies and explosives. Operates truck and tractor on paved and unimproved roads in all types of weather and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents. There is exposure to excessive noise and smoke from the training of military units on the ranges and possibility of injury and burns and explosions; dirt, grease, odors, dust, and fumes while performing maintenance; and possible danger from electric shock, battery acid spills, and falls from range towers and ladders. Safety glasses, ear protection devices, gloves, hard hats, welding hoods, goggles, face shields, and aprons are issued or available. There is some discomfort when wearing protective clothing.
