About the Position: The incumbent will serve as a Range Maintenance Worker at the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security (DPTMS) in Fort Sill, OK.

Duties

Perform first and second echelon maintenance on a variety of target equipment. Ensure continual operation of systems to facilitate uninterrupted unit training. Operate computer systems which control the automated target devices. Construct, repair, install targets, signs, markers, and barriers. Perform range setup and tear down activities during firing densities. Maintain target pits, bunkers, and berms by clearing weeds and picking up debris.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must have or be able to obtain/maintain military vehicle operator permit.
  • Employee is subject to an irregular tour of duty which may span a 7 day, 24 hour operation.
  • Successful completion of a physical examination.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Range Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common Raneg Maintenance Worker duties of routine maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems in a variety of target devices, install replacement parts, and utilize the layout of assigned range to include the location of buried wires and location of targets with a high degree of independence. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble ShootingUse of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping and climbing, and lifting of equipment over 70 pounds (heavy lifting). At the WG-7 level the work requires frequent bending, climbing, reaching, standing and walking, and the lifting of parts and assemblies over 40 pounds, occasionally up to 100. Working Conditions: Performs maintenance and repair work on firing ranges in all types of weather. The work requires knowledge and application of and strict adherence to work procedures and safety precautions to avoid potential hazards of high pressure lines and high voltage lines in the Armor Moving Target Carrier (AMTC). Work subjects the employee to the possibility of cuts, bruises, electric shock, broken bones, skin irritation, burns and insect, reptile and rodent bites. Wears protective clothing and uses safety equipment (e.g., safety shoes, hard hat, eye/face/ear protection, etc.). Work may also expose the employee to the hazards of unexploded live rounds (duds), explosive simulator devices (flash, steel on steel, and smoke pyrotechnics).
