This position is located in the Office of the Scientific Director (OSD), Division of Intramural (DIR), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Duties

Work closely with the Scientific Director, DIR, to lead and manage the large and complex NIAID intramural program by setting research priorities and developing new research initiatives. Use scientific expertise to develop new scientific programs and initiatives in the Division of Intramural Research. Assess and advise on which DIR infectious diseases research projects should receive supplemental funding to support research on emerging threats. Identify and build research infrastructure in developing countries capable of providing high quality immunological, microbiological, biostatistical, epidemiological, and clinical research, and maintain activities at existing sites. Is responsible for the inception, design, and execution of research projects and for supervising assigned staff, and training fellows. Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and establish milestones for completion of the work.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Supervisory Health Scientist (Deputy Director) GS-601-15, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education Qualification: You must possess a Bachelor's degree, or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained). AND Additional Qualifications: In addition, to qualify for a Supervisory Health Scientist (Deputy Director), GS-0601 position at the GS-15 level, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: managing and overseeing all aspects of clinical research programs; developing and overseeing new scientific activities and changes to existing research efforts; designing and executing research projects related to allergy, immunology, and infectious diseases; and coordinating and collaborating with other scientists and research organizations to plan and accomplish research programs. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
