About the Position: This position is located at the Logistics Readiness Center (LRC), U.S. Military Academy, West Point. Located in the scenic Hudson River valley, only 50 miles from New York City, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year academic institution, a nationally-renowned historic site, and the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. The undergraduates, known as cadets, are commissioned as officers in the US Army upon graduation.

Duties

Perform a variety of laboring, warehousing, and service issue tasks at any and all of the established warehousing and customer service locations within the United States Military Academy. Load and unload trucks, forklifts, and other conveyances. Move, pack, unpack, sort, segregate, arrange, or relocate a large variety of supply and equipment items. Receive and issue items from customers according to clearly established directions. Load and unload materials and supplies. Receive, deliver and assemble packages. Perform general cleaning of warehouse areas, service issues points, linen rooms, loading docks, etc. Maintain housekeeping practices in accordance with prescribed instructions, Standard Operating Procedures, and sanitation policies and procedures. Operate snow blowers, lawn mowers, weed wackers, leaf blowers, and other similar equipment to maintain assigned areas. Operate materials handling equipment such as dollies, hand trucks, carts, utility carts, or basket trucks.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and annual Physical Examinations thereafter.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by the employer.
  • This position requires a personnel background investigation. (Tier 1)

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) LABORER without more than normal supervision. 1) performing ground maintenance tasks such as mowing lawns, digging ditches, filling and leveling holes, painting, scrubbing, sweeping, and loading and unloading various supplies and materials; (2) operating hand tools and/or equipment such as power mowers, weed whackers, snow blowers, shovels, dollies, and box cutters; and (3) performing housekeeping work such as tightening door hinges and locks, replacing light bulbs, spackling holes and cracks, and cleaning clogged drains. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen OutAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentDexterity and SafetyWork Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Stand, stoop, bend, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for prolonged periods. Frequently lift, carry, and handle items weighing up to 50 pounds, and regularly required to lift, carry, and handle items weighing over 80 pounds. When working as a member of a team, often lifts the heaviest objects with the assistance of another worker or workers. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work inside and outside subject to heat, cold, damp, drafty, or poorly lighted areas. May work on open docks or storage yards. Work may be dirty, dusty, and greasy. The incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises; falls from ladders; or injury from material handling and other equipment. Required to utilize and wear appropriate safety gear.
