About the Position: Position is located with the US Army Installation Command, Directorate of Emergency Services, Police/Provost Marshal Division in Redstone Arsenal.Incumbent will serve as a Supervisory Detective with overall command and control responsibility for all Military Police Criminal and Traffic Investigations.

Duties

Serve as a Supervisory Detective with overall command and control responsibility for Military Police Criminal and Traffic Investigations and pending investigative matters and procedures relating to scientific, technical and legal matters. Monitor crime trends and apply/direct law enforcement assets and personnel to ensure the safety and security of the soldiers, family members, and civilian employee workforce on Redstone Arsenal. Plan, organize, and conduct long term investigations of complex, sensitive and controversial violations (actual or potential) of criminal law and the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) involving persons and property. Ensure effective operation of the Automated Law Enforcement Reporting System (ALERTS) and the subsequent generation of police reports, forms, and records are prepared and processed in accordance with applicable regulations and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must be successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes to include, weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System training requirements.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state drivers license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • This is a Mission Essential position.
  • Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
  • Must be successfully graduated from a DOD, Federal, National or State approved Advanced Investigator Course or complete within one year of hire date

Specialized experience External Candidates: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-10 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) planning, organizing, and conducting long term investigations of complex, sensitive, and controversial violations (actual or potential) of criminal law; 2) conducting investigations into alleged or suspected violations of criminal laws and military regulations in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and policies; 3) responding to crime scenes to collect and preserve evidence; and 3) Preparing case records to include investigation findings and recommendations.
