You will serve as a TRAINING INSTRUCTOR (REMEDIAL PT/SWIM) of NAVAL AVIATION SCHOOLS COMMAND.

Duties

You will have knowledge of health and fitness training methods. You will have knowledge and ability to teach/test physical fitness and swim standards. You will have knowledge of training methods that apply the principles and techniques of education to help students acquire physical fitness and swimming skills needed for DON course requirements. You will have knowledge of curriculum development to review and provide constructive feedback to existing curriculum. You will have knowledge of DON safety programs and regulations. You will have skill and ability to provide strong oral and written communication skills for effective management, supervision, and instructions of students.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete a High-Risk Instructor screening in accordance with OPNAV 1500.75 upon appointment.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain instructor qualifications meeting the requirements of a Navy Enlisted Classification Code (NEC) 805A unless previously qualified. Initial qualification is required within two months of employment.
  • You will be required to successfully graduate from the Basic Swimming and Water Survival Instructor Training Course (A-012-1014) within three months of employment.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain ARC lifeguarding, CPR, and first aid certifications within three months of employment to perform water- rescues and treat accidents/injuries that can occur during water survival training.
  • You will be required to pass the Navy’s Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) to include the Body Composition Assessment (BCA) using Guide 4 of OPNAV 6110.K(series) and Physical Readiness Test (PRT).

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing training methods that apply the principles and techniques of education to help students acquire physical fitness and swimming skills needed for DOD course requirements; 2) Having knowledge of curriculum development review and providing constructive feedback to existing curriculum; and 3) Utilizing computer software to include Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel. In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

1 full year of graduate level education

or

superior academic achievement
