We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment.

Duties

This position is located in the Hazardous Materials Response Team (HMRT), Hazardous Incident Response Division (HIRD), Operational Services Bureau, Assistant Chief of Police for Uniformed Operations, United States Capitol Police (USCP). Serves as Hazardous Materials Response Team's Resource Coordinator. Supports the development of a Strategic Plan for the Capitol Complex designed to minimize the personal and environmental impact of incidents involving chemical, biological, or radiological agents as well as weapons of mass destruction. Coordinates with Federal, State and local agencies regarding emergency management, emergency preparedness, consequence management, continuity of operations (COOP), and continuity of government (COG). Operates different types of vehicles, to include but not limited to, standard sedan, pickup truck, and large vehicles up to 26,000 pounds with and without trailer. Vehicles are operated in both nonemergency and emergency modes. Performs routine checks on vehicles to ensure they are in good working order and reports any deficiencies that cannot be immediately corrected. Ensures that response vehicles are kept clean at all times. Inspects and inventories all vehicle supplies and equipment, as scheduled. Incumbent may be required to lift, carry and move heavy items associated with transporting needed equipment to incident sites. Coordinates with emergency management, law enforcement, homeland security and other similar agencies to determine latest technology and methods, and to identify sources for obtaining resources/assistance (manpower, specialized teams or materials) that may be required to quickly respond to actual and potential hazardous emergency situations. This is an activity to effectively support the Emergency Medical Response Element and the Respiratory Protection Program Element. Serves as a member of a team dedicated to preparing the USCP and the Congressional community for hazardous emergencies and, if necessary, participates in recovery operations, and assists in executing continuity of operations or continuity of government plans.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.For the CP-9 level you must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the CP-08/GS-10 level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
