About the Position: Serves as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Inspector for 402ND Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, Maintenance Division while performing technical inspections of heavy construction, material handling, ground power, commercial-type vehicles, tactical-type vehicles, marine and general-purpose equipment.

Duties

Performs technical inspection by visually examining or testing equipment. Maintains a technical library for all types and models of equipment maintained in the area of responsibility. Assists maintenance personnel in determining proper procedures, repairs or repair parts at the request of the supervisor Coordinates special projects, such as, estimating fabrication costs and Modification Work Orders (MWO). Performs in-process inspections of work performed by maintenance personnel to ensure repairs and/or paperwork is being accomplished correctly

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a CDL (Class A) license within six months of employment with the following endorsements: air brake and hazardous material.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Temporary Duty travel (TDY) may be required up to 5% of the time.

Such knowledge, skills, and abilities must be clearly documented in your resume and must demonstrate skill and ability to perform common tasks: including conducting limited inspections, performing repairs, replacements, and adjustments of parts and assemblies on heavy mobile equipment; testing and troubleshooting a variety of transmissions; and interpreting schematics and blueprints. Limited ability utilizing applicable military technical manuals (TM) and civilian maintenance manuals in order to look up and order correct parts for both military and civilian pieces of Equipment, using either the Usable on Code (UOC) or Make, Model and Type. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Required to stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally may lift, push or pull items weighing up to 100 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Most of the work is done inside where it is drafty and noisy, and fumes from equipment and welding are usually present. The inspector must frequently stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time. There are times when he must crawl under vehicles and inspect while on hard, usually damp and cold surfaces. He is occasionally called upon to work outside, in sub-zero temperature (-60 sometimes) in bad weather. During road tests, is subject to road hazards and testing course hazards. Dirt, dust, and grease are frequently present. Vehicle fluids, such as battery acids and hydraulic fluids may cause burns or irritate the skin. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, shocks, burns and strains.
