About the Position: This position is located at Army Community Service (ACS) on Ft. Leavenworth, KS. Recruitment, relocation and/or retention incentives are NOT offered for this position. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is NOT authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.

Duties

As an Army Community Service Specialist, you will perform the following: Plan, develop, implement and administer the ACS installation Information, Referral and Follow Up Program which links clients with available and appropriate social service resources. Develop and coordinate assessments to identify customer's needs. Conduct intake evaluations with soldiers and family members in need of social services assistance. Determine the nature of client's problems. Provide client referral and advocacy services. Provide information to individuals and families regarding military and civilian resources available to address a wide range of client's requests. Establish and maintain extensive files of information on local public, private and voluntary service agencies and organizations. Develop and produce a wide variety of marketing and advertising products and services to support established marketing plans.

  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as Sociology, Social Work or Psychology. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. -OR- C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience required: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting intake evaluations to determine the level of social service programs required and providing referral services for individuals and/or families in need of social service assistance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). -OR- Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Sociology, Social Work or Psychology. Please note: Transcripts must be submitted. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). All applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcements. Current employees applying under VEOA are subject to time-in-grade restrictions like any other GS employee.
