Requirements

  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. Possess or be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate SECRET security clearance within 12 months in the position.

  • Continued employment in this position is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the mandatory training specifically identified for the position.
  • Position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless approved in advance by TAG.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Irregular and overtime hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid PR State driver’s license to operate government motor vehicle in accordance with Service specific Vehicle Operations Directives.
  • The incumbent of this position description must have at a minimum, a completed National Agency Check (NAC) prior to position assignment.

  • May be required to travel by car, in military and/or commercial aircraft, and by other means of transportation as appropriate to perform temporary duty assignments.

DUTIES: As a EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST (BIOMEDICAL MAINTENANCE)(NGT5863000), GS-1670-12, you will provide biomedical equipment repair services, activities, and functions (troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, test, align, calibrate, inspect and maintain) and provide biomedical equipment repair oriented training to guardsmen performing annual training. Physical Demands: May be required to handle and/or insure proper disposal of hazardous material(s). Requires use of protective/safety clothing/equipment. May be required to lift moderately heavy objects weighing less than 50 pounds. Working Environment: The work is performed in a maintenance shop and/or warehouse service locations where regular and recurring exposure to electrical and moving machinery hazards are present, and personal protective equipment is frequently required. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more classes of equipment. The experience must include knowledge of standard shop terminology. A basic knowledge of mechanical principles relating to equipment. Experience must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical publications. Knowledge is of the type gained from technical training, education, and experience in functions such as repairing, overhauling, maintaining, constructing, or inspecting equipment. Experience using computer and automation systems. INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: Undergraduate Education: Major study in the electronic field of an accredited college or university. Graduate Education: Major study in the Biomedical Technology field. (90 credits or more) OR GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience that provided a knowledge of the characteristics, uses, and properties of equipment. This experience may have been gained in trades or crafts, engineering technician, production control, inspection, or other work related to the specialization of the position to be filled. Technical school may be credited as general experience in accordance with the following criteria: Full-time resident study in a technical institute above the high school or trade school level on a month-for-month basis. Completion of a full 4-year curriculum in a technical or vocational high school for up to 6 months of general experience. Completion of a resident trade school course of at least 1 year in the manufacture, repair, or maintenance of equipment for up to 1 year of general experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess at least ONE (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower-level GS-11 or the equivalent THIRTY-SIX (36) months of specialized experienceperforming or supervising duties such as revising preventative maintenance and calibration cycles; monitoring equipment lifecycles; assisting with the out shipment for deployment and reconstitution of assets when returned; troubleshooting, testing, and repairing of medical equipment and devices; conducting biomedical repair-oriented training; ensuring that units are medically ready for training, deployment, and state activation for domestic operations; installing, maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, testing, repairing, and rebuilding electronic medical equipment; performing software diagnosis between software and hardware and correcting system software or application program malfunction; conducting preventive maintenance (PM) inspections of medical equipment; determining whether medical equipment is safe and operating within manufacturer's specifications; using written test procedures; developing and documenting a PM procedure and completing the inspection; documenting the results of PM inspections using appropriate forms; serving as the automated maintenance system manager for the maintenance operation that pertains to medical maintenance services and equipment readiness; focusing on quality issues in all aspects of biomedical equipment maintenance processes and maintenance shop operations; serving as a technical expert in and performing unit-level maintenance and support; providing mentorship, assistance, and in-service training in the setup, operation, calibration, and service of supported medical equipment; ordering spare parts and accessories as necessary; evaluating user and operator maintenance procedures; examining equipment for evidence of improper operation and deterioration, unreported malfunctions, and suitability; ensuring safe equipment practices are exercised during installation, repair, modification, and calibration; instructing in the use, care and safety practices for biomedical equipment systems; formulating and proposing corrective actions and modifications; providing equipment systems status reports; developing and updating standard operating procedures, system level procedures, and work instructions as required, and explaining work requirements, methods, policies, and procedures; repairing electronic, pneumatic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical medical equipment.
