As a Health Technician (EMT) GS-0640-7 you would perform a variety of assignments required to perform analytical and operational work in support of the Division of Safety and Occupational Health. Primary specialization is emergency management; comprehending the objectives of safety and occupational health programs/principles and the technical measures used to control or eliminate unsafe acts and conditions; and knowledge of common hazards and protective measures, including safety devices.

Duties

Duties for this position include: Respond on foot to emergency scenes while adhering to park standard operating procedures. Independently conduct accurate and complete patient assessments in the field and clinical setting; Provide appropriate basic treatment as outlined in governing protocol(s), in route, or until advanced or definitive care is provided. Prepare written documentation of patient care activities that are thorough, accurate, and in compliance with patient privacy regulations, legal requirements, and local procedures. Use advanced knowledge of anatomy, knowledge of major body systems, knowledge of emergency medical techniques and procedures and knowledge relevant to understanding the legal considerations of emergency care. Conduct in-service training sessions for peers and other park staff on emergency equipment and procedures as assigned.

SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position performs Emergency Medical services providing patient care in a clinical, ambulance and/or field setting. You must possess a valid/current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification -OR- current licensure or certification as an EMT through a State whose curriculum meets the National EMS Education Standards and the equivalent testing requirements of the National Registry of EMTs -AND- Basic Life Support CPR Certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross. You must provide a copy of your valid EMT certification and current Healthcare Provider CPR card. -AND- EXPERIENCE: To qualify for this position at the GS-7 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: Experience: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: following public safety and security, emergency response, customer service, technical competence and teaching others. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. CTAP/ICTAP: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies. Federal employees seeking CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.605(2) for CTAP or 5 CFR 330.704 for ICTAP. This includes a copy of the agency notice, a copy of their most recent Performance Rating, and a copy of their most recent SF-50 noting current position, grade level, and duty location.
