About the Position: Serves as a Health Technician (Occupational) within a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) or at a branch health clinic. Responsible for providing comprehensive occupational health services to all eligible beneficiaries in the area of responsibility (AOR) of the MTF. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Provide patient screening to obtains and review medical and/or occupational history. Review all pertinent data and determines requirements for ancillary testing and program placement. Maintain medical records in accordance with applicable directives. Counsel patients in regard to their test results, health promotion topics and workplace health hazards. Provide administrative support such as patient scheduling and coordination of pre-placement and routine physical exams. Assist in patient reception and with answering telephones.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support (BLS) training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid US State issued driver’s license to carry out position related duties.
  • Position requires completion of a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) approved course in Spirometry within 6 months, and refresher training as required.
  • Requires completion of audiometry by the Council of Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) within 6 months, and refresher training as required.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. GS-5 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing support duties under close supervision of a health care personnel; providing costumer service; maintaining files and using an automated system to schedule/reschedule appointments.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, [insert applicable field(s) of study]. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. GS-6 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes working with Health care personnel with limited supervision assisting with various screenings, such as vision, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry, and electrocardiograms (EKGs); scheduling patient check-in appointments; utilizing an automated medical information system; AND working with Health care personnel with limited supervision. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. GS-7 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes checking in and scheduling patients in a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF); cleaning exam/operating room after procedures; maintaining patient records using a variety of computer programs and medical electronic scheduling and records systems; reviewing patient charts for accuracy and completeness; and monitoring patients vital signs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
