In this position, you will perform duties and tasks related to the proper receipt, storage, and preparation of submitted samples, veterinary biologics, laboratory reagents, equipment, supplies and related materials, as well as, transporting of hazardous waste/materials.

Duties

The duties may include, but are not limited to: Follows established policies, procedures and guidelines for issues related to environmental protection, safety, biosafety, and occupational health. Supports and participates in the execution of the quality management system. Uses a computerized system for the purpose of inventory tracking and control, and for closely monitoring all movement of materials. Inspects, receives, sorts, ships, counts, identifies, and is knowledgeable of special handling techniques and procedures required for the processing of hazardous and toxic materials. Examines and identifies the most complex and difficult items received by the site. Receives stock from a variety of sources such as local vendors, depot shipments, United Parcel Post (UPS), United States Postal Service (USPS), Federal Express (FedEx), motor freight, and material returns. Adheres to warehousing plan and accepted warehousing methods, procedures and techniques to select proper storage location to store, stock, and palletize items. Uses automated systems to perform the entire receiving process and to enter, change, delete, or prepare numerous discrepancy reports.

Requirements

  • You must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Individuals who were born male after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

  • Valid state driver's license is required at the time of application.
  • Required training to obtaining shipping certification within 90 days of employment and maintaining certification by completing re-certification every two years.
  • Criminal Justice Information Services database check required for work involving Biological Select Agents and Toxins.
  • Works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation, and outdoors subject to all kinds of climatic conditions.
  • Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Operates motor vehicles during all types of traffic and weather conditions, including icy roads and reduced visibility.
  • Observes safety requirements and takes necessary precautions, including the use of protective clothing and gear.
  • Moderately heavy physical effort is required in loading, transporting, and unloading equipment and supplies.
  • Occasionally lifts items weighing more than 70 pounds. Heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
