You will serve as a LEAD NUCLEAR ENGINEER in the Nuclear Facilities and Waste Management Division, Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department Code 2300 of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Duties

You will direct, control, monitor, interpret and seek resolution on all matters pertaining to the effective conduct of production and engineering practices in the assigned area of responsibility (AOR). You will provide direction of nuclear engineering work involved with cradle to grave processes of naval vessel propulsion plant systems in their AOR. You will provide engineering direction such as preparation, review and approval of Technical Work Documents (TWD) and administrative documents in support of reactor plan procedures for: Technical content, radiological controls and more. You will ensure compliance with all NAVSEA technical and safety requirements, including assessing the distribution and balancing of work and providing input and advice to the Branch Head on technical factors affecting work distribution. You will provide coordination, facilitation of technical work accomplishment in your AOR via mentoring, technical oversight and technical review of work. You will maintain close liaison with production personnel and resolve technical problems identified during production phase of a job, (e.g. Deficiency Report resolutions, TWD changes). You will perform detailed engineering studies, tests and evaluations relating to general AOR, develop and execute action plans to resolve complex problems in your AOR, involving a variety of customers. You will prepare, review and approve off-station correspondence to resolve drawing, procedure, or equipment problems or to propose improvements.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• This position involves regular and recurring shipboard inspections and investigation that require considerable agility and strenuous physical exertion. You may be required to climb vertical ladders in restrictive confined areas.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional Engineer providing technical oversight through planning and reviewing reactor plant procedures (e.g. Technical Work Documents TWD, radiological controls and administrative contents) for the construction, repair, or modification of nuclear powered naval vessels propulsion plant systems, components, or support equipment technical and safety requirements. Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
