You will serve as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command, Mid Atlantic (NAVFAC MIDLANT, Public Works Department of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will Monitor equipment operations to ensure correct processing of wastewater through successive stages of domestic and industrial wastewater treatment systems. You will operate major pumping stations of a collection system for industrial and domestic wastewater. You will perform tests (e.g., standard jar, ion concentration [pH] tests) and record results in standardized reports. You will observe gauges, lights, charts, telemetering devices, alarms, and other equipment controlling the distribution of water. You will read chemical procedures to determine methods for treating industrial waste.

Qualifications

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Understanding of the treatment process, chemical storage, and laboratory equipment for treating heavy metals, fuel oils both emulsified and free, cyanides, organics, and etc.; 2) Interpreting laboratory analysis and it's application to the treatment process; 3) Utilizing pumps, forklifts, tanker trucks, and safety equipment in treatment plant facilities; and 4) Performing spill containment, clean methods, and use of personal protective equipment. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
