The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate supervisors and workers in accomplishing trades and labor work over operations, installations, maintenance and repair work for on-base facilities, and provide selected support for off-base facilities. Serves as Deputy to Operations Flight Commander.

Duties

- Performs work planning responsibilities. Plans and establishes long-range work requirements and schedules (typically 6 months or longer). - Performs work direction responsibilities. Assigns and explains work requirements and operating instructions to subordinate supervisors. - Performs administration responsibilities. Participates with subordinate supervisors/employees in the development of performance plans. - Provides a work environment that is free from all forms of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. - Ensures education in, compliance with, and practice of security directives, good safety, and health habits in all work areas

  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety
  • This position meets all req as a cat4 designation, shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization w/o seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function
  • This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and CAN NOT become a member of the Ready Reserve. (IAW: DoDD 1200.7, "Screening the Ready Reserve").
  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
  • Work requires inside and outside work with possible exposure to extreme temperatures/weather, high noise levels, dust, fumes, etc while making visits/inspection of shops/work sites
  • May occasionally be required to work overtime or holidays on short notice
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 General Maintenance & Operations Work Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to supervise. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) supervised and personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity/ Equal Employment Treatment. 2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications. 4. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission. 5. Ability to manage overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities and functions and implement sound personnel policies, practices, and procedures through one or more levels of subordinate supervisors. 6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
