Employee will serve as a Rehabilitation Technician aligned within Mental Health Service, Domiciliary Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (DRRTP) at the Veterans Affairs Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics (SORCC) in While City, OR. Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-7. At the lower grade levels, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-7. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work, and availability of funds. Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following: Provides support and rehabilitation services directed towards the goal of returning the patient to his/her community, without dependence on drugs or alcohol, functioning effectively and compliant with medications and treatment. Directs and supports the patient in the implementation of treatment goals and provides input into the treatment and discharge plans. Facilitates daily individual and group sessions. Provides counseling follow-up of patient case load, utilizing accepted standards for individual counseling techniques concerned with psychosocial recovery and rehabilitation. Interacts with interdisciplinary treatment teams on treatment plan development, implementation, and progress review. Provides pertinent information during treatment team planning meetings. Maintains ongoing contact with patients in the programs, monitoring their progress through all phases of the program with individual contact and through written notes in the resident's medical record (frequency dated in the program's policy and procedures manual). Responds to emergencies and has thorough knowledge of rehabilitation operations to assume temporary control of situations and areas. Completes critical incident management and provides crisis intervention and other emergency patient situations with specific instructions; evaluates and assesses patients how may be at risk to hurt themselves or others. Participates in the Quality Improvement program of mental health and behavioral sciences, including developing monitors, evaluation of monitors and collecting data. Maintains thorough knowledge of current trends in the field of mental health, recovery, and substance abuse by attending seminars, workshops, and continuing education courses. Performs other duties as necessary. Work Schedule: 4 days per week, various 10-hour shifts, includes weekends and holidays. Specific schedule will be discussed during the interview process. ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. To qualify for this Rehabilitation Technician GS-5 grade level, applicant(s) must meet at least one of the following qualification requirements. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires one full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service. Experience must have involved the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and activities of either humans or, under laboratory conditions, animals. Experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles, methods, and techniques of psychology needed to assist professional psychologists. Specialized experience includes: working within an interdisciplinary team, applying counseling and supportive skills in individual and group sessions that are appropriate for patients with psychiatric and substance/alcohol abuse problems; maintaining ongoing contact with patients in the program, monitoring their progress through all phases of the program with individual contact and through written notes in the medical record. -OR- EDUCATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of psychology, statistics, or other directly related subjects. -OR- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience are also qualifying. To qualify for this Rehabilitation Technician GS-6 grade level, applicant(s) must meet at least one of the following qualification requirements. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires one full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service. In addition to the experience above at the lower grade level, specialized experience for the GS-6 includes: applying skill of crisis intervention techniques for individuals in acute emotional distress and emergency procedures. -OR- EDUCATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed Six months of graduate education, or an internship meets the specialized experience only in those instances where it is directly related to the position. -OR- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate education and specialized experience are also qualifying. To qualify for this Rehabilitation Technician GS-7 grade level, applicant(s) must meet at least one of the following qualification requirements. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires one full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service. In addition to the experience above at the lower grade levels, specialized experience for the GS-7 includes: utilizing knowledge of assaultive behavior and the basic principles of deescalating a potentially assaultive situation and evaluating risks of self-harm and harm to others; and participating in the quality improvement program for mental health and behavioral sciences, including collecting data, developing monitors, and evaluation of monitors. -OR- EDUCATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed one full year of graduate education meets the specialized experience only in those instances where it is directly related to the position. -OR- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate education and specialized experience are also qualifying. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
