Duties

You will assist with the development and maintenance of a robust Ammunition and Explosives Safety Management Program (ESMP). You will perform regular scheduled and unscheduled inspections of all MCAS Cherry Point installation explosive storage, operating, and loading areas, explosives handling equipment, operating buildings and facilities, and inert munitions warehouses. You will promulgate written directives, instructions, and guidelines for the timely and proper implementation of ammunition and explosives safety policy, regulations, or procedures. You will plan and implement a hazard abatement program through proactive assessments and inspections that identify deficiencies and outline timely and effective corrective actions. You will promulgate Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance (HERO) restrictions and actions for the safe handling of HERO unsafe or susceptible ordnance in accordance with applicable directives. You will develop, implement, and manages an effective explosives safety training program for military and civilian employees. You will prepare and provide explosives safety briefs to DOD, DON, USMC, and flag level officers as required. You will prepares written evaluation reports to compile and analyze data, identify trends, and develop recommended changes in operational procedures to mitigate or prevent mishap recurrence.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Lifting of moderately heavy items, and occasional lifting of heavy items over 50 pounds is required.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: conducting site inspections as a principal member of an explosives safety program; preparing reports to inform personnel and leadership of inspection results; planning and implementing ammunition and explosives safety program procedures in accordance to regulations; and managing an explosives safety training program. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
