About the Position: Serves as the Safety and Occupational Health Specialist for Operations Division, Detroit District. Establishes goals, objectives, plans, programs, budget, and assessment of the Commander's Operations Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Program for Operations Division. Will conduct safety inspections and evaluations, heavy equipment testing and licensing, and coordinates/provides training.

Duties

Plans and manages all aspects of a comprehensive District safety and occupational health program for Operations Division. Conducts inspections and evaluations of personnel associated with navigation locks, floating plants, hydropower production projects, flood control structures and application of safety standards. Conducts Safety Inspections of heavy equipment testing and licensing, and coordinates and provides training. Serves as District’s Load Handling Equipment (LHE) Program manager responsible for management, control and recurring maintenance, non-routine maintenance, major maintenance activities, field inspections, and surveys. Support District Safety Program by providing input and executive initiates as well as perform audits of contractor and government work sites, processes and facilities. Serve as primary point of contact for safety training, certification, and licensing within Operations Division.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a Career Program 12 (CP-12) Position and all ACTEDS requirements apply, to include, as a condition of employment employee must attain CP-12 Level I Certificate within twelve months of entry on duty.
  • This position requires physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven, rocky, or slippery surfaces.
  • Position entails recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, climbing (ladder, scaffolds, or stairs), reaching or similar movement, and carrying moderately heavy objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Incumbent must complete a pre-employment physical examination.
