About the Position: This position is located within the Occupational Health Department of a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF). This is a Direct Hire Solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Obtains and reviews medical and occupational history Refers abnormal vital signs, vision screenings, EKGs, audiometry and spirometry results to an Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) or provider for evaluation per clinic standard operating procedures (SOP) Documents pertinent data in the medical record and on other documents, as appropriate for the examination being performed Triages patients as they arrive, identifying those whose examinations/evaluations will need to be expedited. Verifies and orders all Indicated laboratory studies, x-rays, Immunizations, and other ancillary tests as appropriate Responsible for the safe and effective operation of medical equipment and contributing to a safe working environment. Responsible for compliance with infection control guidelines and practices Including universal precautions. Patient scheduling and coordination of pre-placement and routine physical exam.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • All employees assigned to or subject to being assigned to duties providing direct patient care, either diagnostic or therapeutic must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • A valid state driver's license may be required to operate a motor vehicle when traveling to work sites to observe work operations.
  • This position Is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • All personnel, including direct and indirect care providers, administrators, ancillary services, volunteers, students, and others who may come in contact with patients, must receive and maintain appropriate vaccination against seasonal Influenza.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain approved certification in Audiometry within two years of appointment. Current certification Is preferred, but not required upon Initial employment.
  • Incumbent is required to successfully complete a NIOSH approved course in Spirometry and receive a certificate of completion within two years of appointment.
  • NIOSH refresher training Is required every 5 years. Possession of current training certificate Is preferred, but not required upon initial employment.
  • Possess DOEHRS-HC Certification or able to complete course within 90 days of employment.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes documented experience which demonstrates experience in: 1) conducting patient's assessments such as vital signs, EKGs, and/or medical history; 2) utilizing automated systems to update and/or maintain patient's medical information; 3) conducting patient exams such as vision and/or audio exams. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
