The Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, New York is seeking an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Supervisor with a comprehensive knowledge of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

Duties

The incumbent supervises, under the direction of the utility systems repairer/operator supervisor, repairs, maintenance, installation and operation of facility wide air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Incumbent will track, monitor and report all HVAC systems operations, maintenance and repairs and will ensure all systems are operating efficiently and effectively. He/She possess a comprehensive knowledge of a wide variety of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems. Skill and knowledge must exemplify work ethics with that of a journeyman mechanic or higher. The incumbent must also possess skill and knowledge for determining workload and scheduling mechanics to complete maintenance and repair tasks and must offer professional advice and leadership in completing complex tasks such as troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining these systems. Must also be proficient in the theories of refrigeration and air conditioning in order to calculate proper airflow and locate and repair faulty equipment to reduce inoperative time to a minimum; proficient in computer applications and software programs to expedite and organize the repairs, maintenance and operations of heating, ventilating, refrigeration and air conditioning systems on a day to day basis. The incumbent is responsible for assigning work orally and through work orders accompanied by building plans, shop sketches or blue prints and for ensuring that work requests are completed in a timely fashion. Responsible for ensuring the day-to-day work tasks performed by the mechanics are completed safely and efficiently. Responsibility in answering questions and offering guidance for mechanics in the repair, maintenance, and operations of the facility wide HVAC systems, and at times will need to show by example. Directly responsible for the quality and quantity of work performed in the HVAC shop and at times must establish deadlines and priorities for the members of the shop. Lay out daily, weekly, monthly and yearly work assignments using computer aided software programs, and is also responsible for attending meetings to discuss such plans. Assuring contracted services under his/her work area are completed in accordance with contracts set forth, and will also be responsible for being the contracting officer technical representative for such projects or contracts in work area. Scheduling time and leave of the employees after taking workload into consideration. Plays a role in the interviewing and hiring of new employees for the HVAC shop or other units within Facilities Management. Recommending promotions, completing evaluations, issuing and recommending disciplinary actions and working with the facility human resources department in completing personnel actions such as reprimands or promotions. Ensuring all work assignments are completed in accordance with all applicable codes and standards such as that of the Joint Commission and National Fire Protection Agency, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Working with other sections of facilities management to ensure HVAC work is properly scheduled and completed Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Supervisor/PD01575O Physical Requirements: Incumbent will perform duties in a modern plant and facility. There is continuous noise from equipment and machinery. The incumbent may be required to work in confined spaces, climb ladders and scaffolding, stand for extended periods of time, excessive walking and crawling may be required. Incumbent will be expected to work outside in inclement weather when necessary and work on or near high temperature machinery and equipment. Workers are subject to dirty, greasy and wet work environments. Workers are also subject to handling and working around chemical feed systems and may come in contact with water treatment chemicals which could cause burns from caustics and acids. Workers are also subject to cuts, abrasions and burns while working around equipment.
