Duties

Utilize safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures and regulations to perform a full range of safety and occupational health functions on a military installation. Manage the installation ammunition and explosives safety program through the application of technical knowledge of ammunition and explosives contained within Department of Army (DA) and Department of Defense (DoD) regulations. Conduct Safety and Occupational Health Program surveys and inspections of material handling, storage, maintenance, transportation operations and support facilities and activities. Investigate or assists investigation of serious accidents involving fatalities and significant damage to equipment and property. Determine training needs through analysis of accident experience data, during surveys and inspection, and/or review of regulatory material.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Incumbent may be required to travel up to 15% to perform duties/attend training.
  • This position is designated as Key who is an Incumbent of a CONUS position that cannot be vacated during war or national emergency without seriously impairing the mission; such employees have unique or scarce managerial or technical skills.
  • Must obtain CP12 Certification within 24 months of employment.

Providing guidance to management on developing explosive safety policy and pertaining to ammunition/explosives handling, storage, and/or transportation of hazardous material and 3.) Performing risk assessments, on-site field surveys and accident investigations to determine causes and recommending corrective actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
