About the Position: Assists collections manager with the management of the historical properties, archives, and photographs of the museum collections.

Duties

Develops long range storage, acquisition, and conservation plans to ensure collection is properly managed and developed to support the museum's three themes. Conducts or coordinate the use or loan of objects in support of training. Completes monthly pest management duties and relays any issues to the Museum Curator for awareness and management. Identifies objects requiring conservation efforts, performs needed artifact preparation or maintenance or designates suitable sources for more complex conservation of selected objects. Assists with research in selection of objects for exhibit in support of the museum's three themes, special projects, or classroom instruction. Prepares draft story lines for permanent, temporary, and traveling exhibits. Trains volunteers and interns, assigns tasks and provides input regarding the performance of the volunteers.

Requirements

  • This position has an irregular tour of duty and may require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, and in other situations.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 25lbs without assistance.

Providing complex information on historical artifacts to interns and the general public; 2.) Maintaining data records on historical artifacts to ensure proper handling and care; 3.) Communicating with the general public, teachers and scholars on aspects of history on military unit's historical artifacts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as American and US Military History. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education & TrainingHistory and ArchaeologyTechnical CredibilityWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
