This position is located in the Division of Insurance and Research (DIR), National and Regional Risk Analysis Branch, Financial Analysis Section of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in Washington, D.C. Salary reflects a pay cap for this position of $275,000.

Duties

The Chief works closely with DIR and FDIC executives and staff, and interdivisional groups to conceive, develop, and edit FDIC-published reports on banking and financial topics that are widely read in the financial industry and bank regulatory communities. Serves as a contributing editor for the FDIC Quarterly Banking Profile, which summarizes the trends and the condition of the banking industry. Also reviews and contributes to FDIC publications dealing with economic conditions, financial trends and emerging risks to the banking industry, and serves as the primary contact for media inquiries regarding FDIC publications dealing with emerging risks in banking. Manages or collaborates with counterparts in supervision and other divisions to support key FDIC risk identification processes including, but not limited to, the Risk Analysis Center (RAC), the Financial Risk Committee (FRC), and the Investment Advisory Group (IAG). Presents key findings of analysis and recommendations for specific actions or responses to these senior executive committees for their deliberation and decision-making. Develops appropriate channels for disseminating national and regional banking analysis to FDIC senior management, including executives of the Corporation, other bank regulatory agencies, insured depository institutions, and the public. Directs a multi-disciplinary staff of economic and financial analysts that identify, analyze, and evaluate potential international, national and regional banking risks that may affect the performance of insured depository institutions and the FDIC Deposit Insurance Fund (DIF). Oversees monitoring of conditions and trends in the banking industry, including lending, investment and liquidity patterns, and loan concentrations, for the purpose of evaluating the potential effects on the risk profiles of insured institutions. Manages and conducts off-site analysis and special projects related to potential emerging risks to the DIF. Manages the development, and may present, various written briefing materials that summarize financial conditions and trends, which are regularly disseminated to FDIC Division Directors and executives, the Chairman and FDIC Board Members. Exercises independent judgment and collaborates across organizational lines to initiate staff projects, articles, papers and studies on the range of financial topics affecting the banking industry and the DIF. Cultivates and maintains working relationships with leading external industry experts on global and national economic conditions and financial industry trends and innovations. Works directly with FDIC executives to summarize important financial conditions and economic trends and emerging risks to the DIF for speeches, Congressional testimony and various presentations given by the Chairman and FDIC senior executive management. Represents the Division at various interdivisional meetings and group projects, and represents the FDIC at interagency meetings and industry outreach events. To meet the minimum qualifications, applicants must possess the leadership and technical experiences listed below. These qualifications would typically be gained through serving in roles that require managing projects/teams or guiding the technical work of others. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, skills, and abilities and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Leadership Experience: Experience in leading and coordinating projects, including establishing expectations, reviewing work products/services, monitoring progress, and providing guidance and feedback to team members. Technical Experience 1: Experience in leading, managing or directing financial institution analysis functions or projects. Technical Experience 2: Experience composing publications on highly technical results of economic and financial analyses to bankers, bank examiners, corporate, and government policy makers. Technical Experience 3: Experience in leading projects coordinating research and analysis on aggregate risks to the Deposit Insurance Fund.
