The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Senior Inspection Specialist. Supports the Inspector General in the development, review, and implementation of standard operating procedures; policies and practices to achieve maximum unit/installation readiness. Ensures Wing Inspection Team is qualified and trained to evaluate all critical wartime functions.

Duties

Organizes, analyzes, and consolidates data and prepares reports on major/critical and significant inspection write-ups. Develops and prepares a variety of correspondence and other documentation, i.e. formal letters, position papers, reports, staff studies, staff summary packages, briefings, charts, bullets, background paper, white papers, etc. Formulates and recommends plans for the unit/installation inspection program and associated actions necessary to fulfill inspection requirements IAW higher headquarters directives and instructions. Develops, coordinates, and obtains approval for inspection schedule.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes gathering, assembling, and analyzing facts, drawing conclusions, devising solutions to problems, and identifying changes and trends. Providing recommendations to improve process of quality, reduce costs and controls. Experience in interpreting, developing, and implementing inspection policy including management of inspection plans and programs of the agency to meet command, mission objectives and ensure continuous readiness in assigned units. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of DoD, Joint, and AF inspection and compliance policies, instructions, and practices involved in the AF inspection program; AF structure, mission, and programs; and instructions governing the organization's operations and plans programs. 2. Knowledge of AF programs, structure, mission requirements, vulnerabilities, operational and security policies, and the work processes/operations of assigned organizations. 3. Knowledge of analytical and evaluative techniques related to the identification, consideration, and resolution of difficult issues or problems concerning efficiency and effectiveness of program operations. 4. Skill in gathering, assembling, and analyzing facts, drawing conclusions, devising solutions to problems, and identifying changes and trends. 5. Skill in conducting interviews with senior leaders, functional experts, and employees to obtain information about organizational missions, functions, interrelationships, and work procedures. 6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, negotiate complex issues, write policy, provide training, and maintain good working relationships with others using tact, courtesy and diplomacy. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
