Duties

Serve as a crewmember protecting life and property. Respond to automatic fire alarms, natural gas leaks, wildland fires, and fights fires. Firefighting tasks of moderate difficulty involving structures, equipment, and facilities; crashed and burning aircraft; and fuel, chemical, and brush fires. Perform fire protection inspections in areas where no unusual fire hazards are expected, and the potential severity is low. Perform maintenance, operational, housekeeping, emergency, and stand by duties. Operate radios, fire reporting systems (Emergency Reporting), and computer modem for hazardous material information, and perform maintenance tasks on firefighting apparatus, equipment, and facilities. Serve as a first responder to medical emergencies and perform emergency medical procedures. Perform initial and on-going focused patient assessment and physical examination; determines priority of patient care based on assessment findings; takes, records, and monitors patients baseline vital signs.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Heavy physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects such as cylinders and extinguishers weighing 45 lbs or more. Employee may be required to lift/carry personnel in emergency situations.
  • This position has been designated as a mandatory drug testing position. Requiring participation in random drug testing as a condition of employment.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Works a 72-hour weekly/144-hour pay period tour of duty.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Duties require full use of both arms, both legs, and fingers to bend, turn, pull, crawl, kneel, and climb for such tasks as use of aerial ladders, firefighting equipment controls, arranging/connecting hoses, and all types of rescue operations, etc.
  • Position includes a continuing requirement to satisfy job-oriented training.
  • Must be able to possess and maintain a current, valid state motor vehicle operator license to operate vehicles up to one ton.
  • During rescue operations, incumbent may come into contact with human blood or other potential infectious materials which may result in possible exposure to blood borne pathogens.
  • The employee must possess and maintain current National Registry and/or State Emergency Medical Technician certification commensurate with the level of their duties.
  • Employee must remain clean-shaven to insure integrity of mask fit for breathing apparatus.
  • This position is covered as a rigorous/primary position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear the prescribed uniform and/or personal protective equipment while on duty.
