The primary purpose of this position is to perform Quality Verification Inspections (QVI) and Personnel Evaluations on aircraft, aircraft sheet metal repairs, welding, machining, corrosion, and non-destructive inspection (NDI) work on assigned aircraft.

Duties

Directly evaluates the quality of aircraft and support equipment maintenance performed, including operational performance, compliance with applicable directives based on an in-depth knowledge of assigned aircraft, aircraft systems, and support equipment. Evaluates safety, tool control, utilization of Core Automated Maintenance System (CAMS), publications, technical orders, test equipment, training programs and records. Performs as Quality Assurance Representative (QAR) and Quality Assurance Evaluator (QAE). Serves as system expert and interprets technical orders, drawings, and bulletins to assist supervisors and assists repair personnel in accomplishing repairs. Clean work area and equipment. Participates in investigations of aircraft mishaps, ground mishaps and /or incidents involving damage to aircraft or injury to personnel. Utilizes safety practices and procedures. Inspects areas of personnel proficiency and equipment condition using inspections, evaluations, and observations in support of the Maintenance Standardization and Evaluation Program (MSEP).

• This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
• IA W, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs. Mission essential personnel report for duty at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting and remain on duty during phased or early release.
• This position may be designated mission essential based on local conditions.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3800 Metal Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a Sheet Metal Repair Inspector (Aircraft) without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: In-depth aircraft structural repair and technical knowledge of assigned aircraft, associated systems, flight line operations and equipment Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as schematics, diagrams, blueprints and technical orders relating to aircraft maintenance, and method and procedures. Ability to analyze deficiencies writes and prepares reports and present findings and recommendations Knowledge of inspection techniques; ability to inspect and evaluate work performed to ensure technical order compliance, adequacy of repair, quality of workmanship and use of proper methods and parts. Knowledge of a wide range of welding principles, processes, and techniques Knowledge of flight line operations, aircraft safety requirements, tool control procedures, test equipment and technical orders. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures Ability to evaluate sheet metal structural damage PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires physical exertion, such as extended periods of walking, standing, bending, and climbing in and out of aircraft, carrying light items such as papers, books, small parts, and driving vehicles. No special physical demands are required to do this job. WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee works both inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather and in areas that are noisy, dirty, greasy, and smoky. ls exposed to fumes, heat, flying sparks, the glare of torches, ultraviolet radiation, and heated materials. There is the possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, broken bones, burns, and the chance of cuts when working around sharp objects. There may be discomfort when wearing protective clothing, safety shoes, gloves, flash shield or eye goggles, and other equipment as required. Employee may be required to work uncommon shifts. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
