Duties

The position is located in the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA), Legal Programs Office, in Washington, D.C. Duties include: Evaluating, developing, promoting, and interpreting policy and guidelines with respect to issues within Financial Litigation and Bankruptcy. Developing and advising on pertinent portions of the Justice Manual and other relevant Department and United States Attorney's Office policies and procedures. Preparing, promoting, and recommending organizational, legislative, and regulatory initiatives, and planning and coordinating their review and approval in EOUSA and the Department. Drafting congressional testimony for high level Department officials. Serving as the key legal advisor to EOUSA and the USAOs in Financial Litigation and Bankruptcy. Providing a full range of management and support to EOUSA and the USAOs in Financial Litigation and Bankruptcy. Representing EOUSA on Department and interagency working groups and committees to address significant legal policy and procedural issues impacting EOUSA and the USAOs. Serving as an advocate for EOUSA and the USAOs in a variety of settings. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree (MUST include law school transcripts in your application), Be an active member of the Bar (any U.S. jurisdiction - MUST include proof of bar membership in your application), Have at least 2.5 years post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience to qualify for a GS-14 grade level, Have at least 4 years post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience to qualify for a GS-15 grade level. Must also possess legal or other relevant experience in the areas of financial litigation and bankruptcy. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with the process and procedures to collect and enforce debt owed to government or other institutional creditors. United States citizenship is required. The ideal candidate will have expert-level knowledge of both financial litigation and bankruptcy, with knowledge of and experience working with the Mandatory Victims Restitution Act or any of the various federal debt collection legal frameworks. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
