This position is located in the Albuquerque Indian Health Service Dental Clinic (AIDC) which is located on the campus of the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI) in Albuquerque, NM. The purpose of the position is to serve as the Deputy Clinic Director and to provide dental health services to the designated population in accordance with Indian Health Service policies.

Duties

Provide direct patient services including assessments, medical evaluations, diagnoses, and development of patient treatment plans. Perform managerial duties including assisting with determining staffing needs, creating position descriptions, job assessments and provision of training. Provide direct supervision for supervisory or contracted dental assistants and dental hygienists, assigning work and arranging for training. Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

  • Selectees to supervisory/managerial positions are subject to a one year probationary period.
  • ESEP appointees typically serve a two-year trial period.
  • Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
  • You will be subject to call back and/or stand by.
  • A background security investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DENTAL OFFICER SERIES, 0680 Basic Requirements: Education: You must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: You must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) AND possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Medical Requirements: You must be able to distinguish shades of color. Additional Requirements for the grade GS-12: Experience: In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, you must have at least two full years of experience, one year of which is equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (obtained in public or private sector), performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments. Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position. OR Residency: You must have completed a 2-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science; or equivalent experience, equivalent in scope and responsibility to the next lower grade level, and/or training. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
