This position is located in the Medical Records Department, Parker Indian Health Center, Parker, AZ. The position provides technical assistance with processing and maintain medical record for compliance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, the incumbent is to review, analyze, code, abstract and compile data, maintain medical records information in manual and automated records systems and compile statistics. This position reports to the Medical Records Supervisor.

Duties

Abstract all necessary information and assigns codes. Demonstrate proficiency and necessary skills in assigning and sequencing medical codes to medical data and procedures. Assists with review, analysis and technical evaluation of medical records. Perform quantitative analysis to assure the presence of all components and parts of the record. Identify inconsistencies or discrepancies among medical documentation.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Assist providers in completion of their health record documentation and assist coders; scan documents into the electronic health record; file and purge inactive charts. OR Have 4 years of education. OR have a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level. GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience in assigning specified codes to different medical procedures in order to keep effective medical records for organization such as private practice, hospital, and clinic environment. GS-7: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Use of a thorough knowledge of one or more of the three code sets that are currently in use: Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), ICD-10-CM, and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) Level II to assign specified codes to different medical procedures in order to keep effective medical records and ensure that bills and payments are accurate. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
