This position is located in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, in the Facility Management Division. This is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment. Only one vacant position to be filled. Location can either be Gatlinburg, TN OR Cherokee, NC.

Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will be paid if the selectee lives outside of the local commuting area and is otherwise eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with the Federal Travel Regulation. Major Duties: Supervise all phases of the tree maintenance activities including planning, scheduling and directing the day-to-day tree maintenance program, the preparation of the budget operating program and other administrative functions. Works with and directs subordinates in the weekly and monthly planning and scheduling of all work activities in advance to insure a steady and productive work force, adjusting subordinate work groups and shifts to meet changing workloads. Responsible for the health and safety of subordinates, frequently conducts safety meetings with subordinates to alert them of hazards which might be encountered and to instruct them on the safe operation of equipment. Determine and recommend the type of pruning or treatment needed to carry out the arboriculture program for which you are responsible. Responsible for keeping time and attendance reports, equipment sheets and leave records, counsels and evaluates employees for performance ratings; grants leave, recommends disciplinary actions and evaluates employees for performance ratings. Tracking work/information using a facility management software system (FMSS), ensuring all labor hours, materials and tools are tracked to achieve best practices, assure effective and efficient operations, reliable financial reporting, compliance with NPS best business practices.

Requirements (continued): Incumbent must possess or be able to possess within one year of hire a Master Level Faller Certification as defined in the NPS Chainsaw Safety Program for Non-Wildland Fire Operators (NCSP). Incumbent must possess or be able to possess within one year of hire a COR Level 2 Certification. Incumbent must possess or be able to possess within one year of hire a State Issued (TN and/or NC) Herbicide/Pesticide Applicator's License. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds. Qualifications: To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to lead or supervise (SCREEN OUT) Technical practices: theoretical, precise, artistic Use of measuring instruments Ability to interpret instructions, specifications; other than blueprints Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment Knowledge of materials Dexterity and safety Screen Out: Incumbent must possess a CDL Class B or higher license by close of announcement. (SCREEN OUT). Incumbent must possess an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Arborist Certification license by close of announcement. (SCREEN OUT).
