The United States Tax Court is a federal court of special jurisdiction under Article I of the Constitution of the United States and is administratively autonomous. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and conducts trial sessions in more than 70 cities in the United States. On average, there are 25,000 - 30,000 cases initiated per fiscal year.

Duties

The Clerk of Court is responsible for the management functions of the Court and oversees the Court's administrative and operations personnel consisting of approximately 130 employees and contractors. The Clerk is responsible for implementing administrative and operational policies established by the Court Conference and the Chief Judge. The Clerk of Court has administrative oversight responsibility for all aspects of the Clerk's Office operations. These duties include: Budgeting and Appropriations Strategic Planning and Implementation of Legislation, Rules, and Policies Information Technology Strategic Planning and Delivery of Services Human Resources Management Facilities, Security, and Space Management Case Services and Courtroom Support Management Financial Management Services and Certifying Officer Procurement Management and Contracting Officer Law Library and Digital Collection Management Inventory and Records Management Travel Program Oversight

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Evaluation Criteria: Applicants must possess a juris doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited school of law and be a member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia or the commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Applicants must have a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible administrative experience in public service or business that provides a thorough understanding of organizational, procedural, and human aspects of managing an organization. At least 3 of the 10 years of experience must have been in a position of substantial management responsibility or must have been in the active practice of law in either the public or private sector. Court Preferred Qualifications Prior management experience in court administration in a federal or state court. Prior experience related to federal appropriations, budgeting, and procurement provisions outlined in the Guide to Judiciary Policy. An ability to lead with vision, creativity, collaboration, and initiative. An ability to integrate current and future technologies. Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.

Education

A juris doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited school of law and be a member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia or the commonwealth of Puerto Rico is required.
