The primary purpose of this position is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards.

Duties

Leads a team of trades and/or labor workers Performs work Troubleshoots, modifies, repairs, and tests complex electrical systems, components, and accessories with intricate wiring systems under actual or ground power Modifies, overhauls, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains ground and airborne electronics equipment of moderate complexity or a system of limited complexity

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.gov
  • As required by management, works day, swing, and owl shifts and uncommon tours of duty.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments.
  • This posn is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
  • Provides On-the-Job Training (OJT) to lower grade, borrowed, and newly assigned personnel. Consults on development of formal training as required.
  • Observes safety, security, good housekeeping, fire prevention, and Foreign Object Damage (FOD) rules, regulations, practices and policies.
  • Will use respirator as required and attend respirator-training classes when scheduled by training monitor.
  • Use any other required safety equipment.
  • Disclosure of Political Appointments
  • This is a Testing designated Position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • The employee will be required to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • Exercise is moderately strenuous and includes prolonged standing, climbing on work stands. Requires frequent working in cramped and awkward conditions.
  • Occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds is required. Must be able to read basic colors.
  • Works indoor and outdoor in all seasons. There is a danger of electrical shock, injury from powered machinery, and from falls while working on scaffolds, ladders, roofs and other structures.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Lead or Supervise JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision Ability to inspect Instruct Ability to provide production support services Ability to Lead or Supervise Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc Use of test equipment electronics Theory of electronics Ability to use hand and power tools-electronics Troubleshooting (electronic equipment) Ingenuity (Ability to suggest and apply new methods) PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
