THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for an Aircraft Mechanic Supervisor, Position Description Number D0735000 and is part of the Georgia Army National Guard. This is a full-time, Excepted Permanent, dual status position which requires Georgia Army National Guard Membership. Area of Consideration: Open to current members of the Georgia Army National Guard.

Duties

As an Aircraft Mechanic Supervisor, WG-8852-11, you will: Plan weekly or monthly work schedules and sequence of operations. Establish deadlines and priorities based on established general schedules, methods and policies. Determine skills, materials and equipment required to do the work. Participate in the initial planning of current and future work schedules and development of budget requests. Provide workload data, estimates, information on staffing needs, and recommendations as the scheduling of projected work. Assign tasks to be performed. Instruct subordinates on new procedures or methods and provide assistance on difficult or new problem areas. Review work in progress or on completion. Make adjustments as necessary to effectively and economically accomplish the work. Note and investigate work related problems and independently implement corrective actions which can be taken without affecting work operations controlled by other supervisors. Assure that equipment and materiel is available when needed. Coordinate work with other units. Recommend and participate in the selection of personnel to fill vacancies. Schedule and approve leave of subordinates. Set performance requirements and make formal and informal performance appraisals. Determine training needs of subordinates and arrange for its accomplishment. Counsel employees on problems. Adjust informal complaints through discussions with employees and union representatives. Take informal corrective action on conduct or performance problems. Initiate proposals for disciplinary action where needed. Work to achieve the objectives of Government-wide programs and policies, e.g., equal employment opportunity and labor management relations. Promote the participation of subordinates in programs such as the suggestion program, cost reduction program, etc. Ensure that regulations governing safety and housekeeping are observed with appropriate protective clothing and equipment being utilized. Maintain production reports and records. Periodically review position descriptions of subordinates for currency and accuracy. Initiate the detailing of subordinates to positions other than their own. Initiate or participates in review and improvement of work methods, organizational features, and the structuring of positions to eliminate unnecessary positions and achieve optimum content in those remaining. Perform the nonsupervisory work of the function as needed. Implement regulatory safety requirements and ensure that subordinates wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions. Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or to serve as a team member on boards to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

Qualifications

Military Grades: Enlisted. Compatible Military Assignments: All 15 Series GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Candidate must possess experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Candidate must possessexperience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations, in addition to the journeyman level knowledge. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent is required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing over 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: The incumbent works inside and outside in inclement weather, on icy or slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces and work stands, and in temperature and humidity extremes and is subject to the danger from exposure to an environment of toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces, such as rotor heads, landing gear, explosive munitions, weapons, engine noise, heat, blast, intake suction, fast moving main gear box devices, rotating shafts, cartridge actuating devices, electrical voltage, fire and explosion caused by aircraft fuels, solvents, lubricants, paints and dusts, sharp edges, confined spaces.
