The Atlanta VA Health Care System is actively recruiting for (2) Lead Medical Support Assistant for (VACC) Community Care.

Duties

The Lead MSA is responsible for initiating and carrying out a variety of administrative and technical duties in support of the VA Community Care Service. This person provides administrative coordination of patient care and appointments and logistical factors associated with direct patient care, inpatient and outpatient, related to the coordination of care between Atlanta VAMC and outside facilities, both VA and Non-VA. Responsibilities The Lead MSA duties include, but are not limited to: Monitors and makes work assignments. Provides input on the MSA performance to the supervisor. Resolves daily workplace issues and maintains efficient workflow. Conducting ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work. Maintain electronic databases to track VA Community Care consults Providing guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures. Distributing and balancing workload. Orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees. Ensuring all training requirements are met. Organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas. Additional duties may be assigned to ensure efficient daily operations. The Lead MSA may float between clinics or travel to cover additional locations as needed. Monitors and makes work assignments, provides input on performance, resolves daily workplace issues and maintains efficient workflow. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: assuring coverage of all areas of responsibility; conducting ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work; ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments; providing guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures; distributing and balancing workload; creating and maintaining employee work schedules; orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees; ensuring all training requirements are met; organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas; and acting as liaison between MSA and staff in order to resolve day to day conflicts. The Lead MSA works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary care delivery model (i.e. physicians, nursing, social work, dietary, respiratory therapy, etc.) and performs all related duties; customer service and other duties assigned for the proper and timely treatment of patients, efficient patient flow and assures discharge appointments are scheduled. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm (Tour may rotate or change based on the needs of the Service). Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: For the GS-07: Qualified candidates must possess one (1) full year (52 weeks) of work experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06). Preferred Experience: Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR, Education. One year above high school; OR Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. Assignment. The Lead MSA is responsible for the coordination of Advanced MSA assignments and workflow found in an interdisciplinary unit. The Lead MSA is responsible for daily workload assessments, assigning work, and assuring proper staffing coverage; evaluating training records; and determining training needs of MSA's to provide support across interdisciplinary settings. The Lead assists the unit with complex and non-standard procedures, including clinical flow processes related to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and or community resources. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments, providing guidance's to staff members, to include changes in policies and procedures; creating and maintaining employee work schedules; and acting as a liaison among Advanced MSAstaff, patients and other interdisciplinary staff to resolve day-to-dayconflicts. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, administrative independence, complexity difficulty and range of variety as describe in this standard at the specified grade level and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. Examples of experience include, but, are not limited to: Assuring coverage of all areas of responsibility; conducting ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work; ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments; providing guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures; distributing and balancing workload; creating and maintaining employee work schedules; orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees; ensuring all training requirements are met; organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas; and acting as liaison between MSA and staff in order to resolve day to day conflicts. NOTE: To be found eligible, this experience must be clearly defined within your resume. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-7. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-7. In addition to the previously mentioned Qualifications, all qualified candidates must also be able to demonstrate the following Ability, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's): 1. Ability knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and or community resources. 2. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. 3. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. 4. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff. 5. Ability to provide staff development and training. 6. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics. NOTE: To be found eligible, this experience must be clearly defined within your resume. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Some work may require walking in offices, hospitals, warehouses and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite. Incumbent may carry light item.
