This position is located in the Department of the Chief Program Officer, AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) in Vinton, IA.

Duties

Each of the 4 NCCC Regions handle from 300 to 700 Corps Members annually. Groups of Members arrive and depart 4 times during the year. The Member Support Specialist performs a wide variety of administrative activities in direct support of the Members. Activities include, but are not limited to: payroll, transportation, health insurance, loan forbearance, and education awards. Primary duties include: Upon receipt of the master Member roster,verifies the number of expected Members and reports any deviation to Headquarters via the AmeriCorps Portal or email. Conducts Member training on the purpose and use of the AmeriCorps Portal. Activates Portal access for new Members and deactivates access for departing Members. Coordinates and monitors Member travel with the Agency's Travel Agent. Establishes the Regions shuttle schedules to transport Members from airports, train and bus stations to the Region and vice versa. Verifies travel arrangements made by the Travel Agent and functions as the Travel Agent liaison. As necessary, makes individual travel arrangements. Participates in new Member orientation and periodic informational conference calls. Conducts training for new Members on Loan Forbearance, Education Awards, Health benefits, Worker's Compensation, Living Allowance, and Childcare benefits. Helps Members complete required forms. Establishes and maintains hard copy and electronic Member files. Continually updates spreadsheets and/or the AmeriCorps Portal to confirm Member head count. Submits new Member information to the Health benefits provider; disseminates and collects health benefit identification cards. Ensures that the Health benefits provider is advised of departing Members. Provides instructions on how to submit claims for payment to various service providers, e.g., hospitals, physician's offices. Works with Members and providers to resolve unpaid claim issues. Serves as POC for banks or other financial institutions, and for Member matters regarding their stipend pay. Independently resolves routine issues. Produces a variety of reports, correspondence, and other documents. As required, coordinates Member fingerprinting to satisfy security requirements and may produce identification cards for Members. Supports Member exit process by ensuring that all identification and benefit cards and equipment are returned. Deactivates departing Member access in the AmeriCorps Portal.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen
  • A 2-year probationary period is required for new Federal employees and supervisors.
  • Merit Promotion and internal applicants must submit a SF-50 to verify Status and grade
  • Satisfactory completion of a background investigation.
  • Must be telework ready.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (paid, unpaid, or volunteer work) comparable in scope and responsibility to at least the upper range of the NY-01 pay band, which would be at or equivalent to, the GS-06 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience must include all of the following: 1) Data entry into spreadsheets or databases and system monitoring, 2) Providing guidance concerning services such as employee benefits, loans, personnel records, etc.; and 3) Providing general administrative support for an organization like making travel arrangements, filing, and tracking documents. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Such experience must be clearly documented in the applicant's resume.

Education

If you are qualifying based on education alone, you must have one full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement as defined by being in the upper third of your graduating class; or possessing a 3.0 GPA or higher over four years of education; or possessing a 3.5 GPA or higher during final 2 years of education. Such education must be from an accredited institution and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. You must submit an unofficial copy of your college transcript. You must submit evidence that any education completed in a foreign institution is equivalent to U.S. educational standards.You may also qualify based on a combination of education and experience, if applicable.
