This position is located under the Division of Financial Services, Patient Business in the Benefits Coordinator Section at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center, AZ. The primary purpose of this position is to function as the Lead Health Benefits Coordinator, assuring the identification of patients who are eligible for alternate resources. As a Lead, the incumbent provides support and technical assistance to the other Benefit Coordinators and Business Representatives.

Duties

Leader Responsibilities: Serves as work leader for at least ten (10) Benefit Coordinators and (4) Business Representatives, responsible for substantially assuring that the work assignments of the other employees of the group are carried out. Typical duties include, but are not limited to: Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization, assures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assures that each employee has enough work to keep busy. Estimates and reports on expected time of completion of work, and maintains records of work accomplishments and time expended and prepares production reports as requested. Gives on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. Creates and maintains on-going changes on written processes. Amends or rejects work not meeting established standards, refers to supervisor questions or matters not covered by standards and problems in meeting performance standards. Assures that internal r ports are maintained for use in evaluating quantity and quality of employee production. Benefits Coordinator Duties: Establishes eligibility of potential Medicare eligible by working with the Social Security Administration (SSA), on both the local and regional levels. Verifies eligibility of patients by contacting the ne rest SSA or Department of Social Services (DSS) Office, or State Medical Assistance Office. Works with patient registration/receptionists in screening for potential eligible patients. Works with social services and other disciplines that may assist in developing registers of eligible patients through their current activities related to determining the health status of the elderly. Assists individuals with application for alternate resources, and interprets rules and regulations. Ensures timely entry of all private insurance, AHCCCS and Medicare information to augment outpatient and inpatient billing efforts. Maintains a tracking system of pending applications for various Medicare or Medicaid programs to ensure the enrollment of patient to said programs.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS,GS-0962-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Work experience advising patients of nonpayment or approval of claim; compile and write reports; contact alternate resources to explore reasons for adverse decision, the possibility of reconsideration, whether there are grounds for appeal; complete contacts independently including review of complex records, reconstruction of involved transactions, analysis of precedent decisions. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
