The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned & operated manufacturing center located in New York. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Today it is relied upon by U.S. and foreign militaries to produce the most advanced, high-powered weaponry for cannon, howitzer, and mortar systems. The Arsenal is the only location in the DoD that has a weapons research facility (Benet Labs) collocated with a manufacturing facility.

Duties

Inspects new tools, fixtures gages and First Article components and assemblies to determine compliance with contract requirements to include technical drawings and specifications. Inspects fixtures and gauges to determine compliance with technical drawings and planner requirements. Ensuring serviceability of inspection equipment. Assigns work and provides leadership and technical expertise to employees led. Insures that needed plans, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Answers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives; obtains needed information or decisions from the supervisor if problems come up during the work. Makes decisions regarding work assignments, equipment utilization, repair/replacement of unserviceable inspection equipment and cross training of inspectors.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Instrument Mechanic Inspector Leader without more than normal supervision to include 1) Leading and/or instructing others in performing inspections on a wide variety of new tools, fixtures gages and/or components and assemblies for compliance with specifications; 2) Insure needed plans, blueprints, materials and tools are available; 3) Performing calibration and repair of complex inspection equipment; 4) Reading and interpreting blueprint and component drawings.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below.
